STSHC v1.0 · Operational Audit Tool
Focus Fragmentation
Impact Calculator

A capacity-aware planning tool for estimating the theoretical attention overhead costs of unmitigated interruption architectures across knowledge work teams.

STSHC_FRAGMENTATION_CALC_v1.0 Non-Clinical Operational Tool Pre-validation release
Mandatory Regulatory Boundary & Operational Disclaimer

All outputs from this calculator are theoretical estimates based on illustrative planning assumptions drawn from supporting literature. Results do not constitute financial advice, clinical assessment, or guaranteed organizational outcomes. This tool is non-diagnostic, non-clinical, and voluntary — it does not function as a medical device, clinical decision tool, or performance management classifier. Estimates are illustrative planning inputs only — actual costs vary significantly by organizational context, role type, interruption severity, and individual capacity profiles. This tool must never be used as the sole basis for employment, compensation, or performance management decisions.

Purpose

This calculator operationalizes a core finding from Attention Residue Theory (Leroy, 2009): every unplanned interruption forces a cognitive context-switch, leaving attentional residue on the previous task and substantially reducing processing efficiency in the immediate execution queue. By estimating the aggregate attention overhead cost across a team, organizations can quantify the theoretical planning case for capacity-aware communication architecture.

Variable A
Team Size
Total number of specialized knowledge practitioners or operators on the team
Variable B
Average Annual Salary
Average annual gross payroll cost per operator (used to derive hourly planning rate)
$
Variable C
Daily Interruption Events
Average unplanned interruptions per operator per day — unscheduled messages, pings, or micro-meetings outside batch windows
Attention Residue assumption (Leroy, 2009): Each unplanned interruption is modelled as imposing a conservative attentional recovery period of approximately 20 minutes before a practitioner may fully re-engage with their prior task. This figure is a planning estimate drawn from attention residue research — actual recovery times vary by individual, task type, and interruption severity. This is a theoretical model, not a clinical measurement.
Step 1
Variable B ÷ 2,000 hours
Estimated hourly planning rate per operator
Step 2
Variable C × 0.333 hours (20 min per event)
Estimated daily attention overhead per operator
— hrs
Step 3
Step 2 × Variable A × 20 working days
Estimated monthly team attention overhead (hours)
— hrs
Estimated Monthly Attention Overhead Cost
Theoretical Capacity Cost of Current Interruption Architecture
Step 3 (hours) × Step 1 (hourly rate). Illustrative estimate only — see caveat below.
USD / month estimated
Important limitation: This figure is a theoretical planning estimate based on simplified assumptions. It does not account for variation in individual recovery rates, role type, task complexity, or organizational context. No controlled trial of this model has been conducted. Treat as a directional planning input for capacity infrastructure decisions, not as a precise financial measurement or guarantee of recoverable value.
The following pathways are suggested starting points for capacity-aware organizational design, grounded in the STSHC v1.0 framework. Pathway activation does not guarantee cost recovery. All implementations should follow the voluntary, non-diagnostic principles of the STSHC v1.0 Core Standard.
Estimated overhead under $3,000 / month
Individual Capacity Planning Infrastructure

Deploy the STSHC Creator Capacity Planning Ledger — a voluntary, non-diagnostic daily self-assessment tool for individual operators. Establishes morning SC scoring, protected focus block planning, and capacity-aware task routing at the individual level. Reduces personal focus fragmentation through structured batch communication window habits.

Estimated overhead $3,000 – $10,000 / month
Team-Level Wave Cycle Architecture

Deploy the STSHC 6+1 Wave Cycle Calendar Kit — organizational governance infrastructure for capacity-aware delivery cycles. Implements batch communication windows at set daily intervals (10:00 AM / 3:30 PM), the 6-week focused production + 1-week maintenance cycle, and the Day 5 Team Planning Review using aggregate SC data. Capacity data is client-side encrypted; team dashboards display aggregate statistics only (minimum n ≥ 5).

Estimated overhead above $10,000 / month
Enterprise Capacity Governance Program

Consider engaging the STSHC MasterClass — a premium organizational curriculum for executive operations, capacity governance, and enterprise-wide implementation of the STSHC v1.0 framework. Covers six-pillar capacity architecture, ACI enterprise scoring, Delphi weight assignment, and full Ethical Firewall Protocol deployment across distributed teams.
